The Kowa Nitrate Monitor
Installation Details
General Arrangements
The equipment consists of a single wall-mounting housing
(Dimensions 600 X 610 X 415 mm (Width, Height, Depth)), two 5 litre
polyethylene containers and wall-mounting shelf to take the two 5
litre containers.
The wall-mounting housing is made up of a section which is
attached to the wall, a hinged middle section and a glazed door which
is fitted with 4 mm security glass. the wall- and hinged-sections are
made of 1.5 mm sheet steel, and the door of extruded aluminium. The
housing is electrophoretically primed and finished in textured
stove-enamelling. The colour of the door frame is RAL 7033 and the
enclosure is RAL 7032
Gross weight
Instrument 47.5 kg
5 litre containers 5.4 kg each
Preservation and site storage procedures
The instrument can be stored indefinitely in its original
packaging at temperatures in the range 5 to 45 °C and at a relative
humidity in the range 5 to 95% non-condensing.
Operating fluid and material consumption
The quantities of distilled water and 12% hydrochloric acid
consumed is dependant on settings which are customer programmable.
When correctly adjusted, distilled water is used at the rate of 125
ml per day (5 litres lasts 40 days) and 12% hydrochloric acid at the
rate of 35 ml per day (5 litres lasts 142 days).
Supply Voltage
Instruments are available to run on either 110 Volts 50 Hz or 240
Volts 50 Hz. single phase. This must be specified when ordering.
Water Pressure and quality
The pressure of the sample water must be in the range 0.05 to 4
Bar. It is recommended that a pre-filter be used with surface waters
- a 10 inch 50 micron cartridge filter is generally adequate.
Mechanical Considerations
The wall on which the instrument is to be mounted must be capable
of supporting the 50 kg (1 cwt) weight of the instrument plus any
additional forces applied. For example when the door and middle
section are open and they are leaned on.

Drill and plug four 12 mm diameter holes as shown in the
diagram.
The instrument is attached using four 60 mm long, 8 mm diameter
galvanised, hexagonal headed wood screws.
The distance "X" less 75 mm is the height of the display when the
instrument is attached to the wall.

Tube connections
The plastic tubing which is attached to the connectors (on the
left side of the middle section of the housing), must be able to
withstand the 12% hydrochloric acid. Some suitable materials are
polyethylene, Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), or silicon rubber.
Dimensions: outside diameter 6 mm, inside diameter 4 mm.

relative positions of the tube connections.
